Odilo the Steward is charged by Severian(who’s been reigning for 5 years) with the well-being of the HYPOGEUM APOTROPAIC.
I have no recollection of what that is, but I’ll figure it out once I start reading the story.
It’s probably… what, a building of some kind? Or some kind of larger property. What does a person be charged with the well-being of? People and places, right? And he’s the Steward, too. And it just SOUNDS like some kind of uh, Roman Colosseum or something.
I kinda feel like it was the uhh… “estate” of the Autarch in BOTNS, but I really don’t remember, if it was named at all.
Okay, I PEEKED, I was close—it’s the wing belonging to Father Inire. Who, in hindsight, was one of the most mysterious characters in the series.
I can’t even remember what happened to him. If anything.
Father Inire had these MIRRORS that he’d experiment with that would go to other dimensions. IIRC he showed Thecla some kind of fish in the mirror and it like, traumatized her. Was it like… insanely bigg or something? IDK/IDR.
If someone showed you a fish larger than anything on Earth from another dimension, it’d probably scare you, right? Idk though, I really don’t remember how it was described. Maybe she was just a fraidy-cat.
I think I’m allowed to refresh my recollection on Father Inire, because I read all the books. And I’ve begged you enough times to read it. Let’s ask Perp:
Ask: I don't remember much about Father Inire from BOTNS. Can you give me, say, 100 words or less about him? Specifically I don't remember what ever happened to him.
Perp: Father Inire is the Autarch’s reclusive, ancient counselor and master of mirrors, illusions, and high technology; he’s likely a nonhuman or heavily augmented being. He mostly works behind the scenes, subtly guiding events. By the end of The Book of the New Sun, Severian effectively leaves him in charge of the Commonwealth when he departs on the ship, and Inire survives in that advisory/regent role rather than getting a dramatic on-page death.
I knew it. I didn’t remember what happened to him because nothing happened to him. Nothing Ever Happens.
Do you think he died when the world was flooded? I doubt it, he probably just *left*.

Just been playing a bit offffffffff… Age of Imprisonment. It’s… still fun. You know what, though? The Fire Emblem Warriors are just perfect. Especially Three Hopes(besides the two non-Dimitri stories being trash) Sooooo much dumb fun the way they added in RPG elements and basically made it a normal Fire Emblem game. W-wait a minute, what are you--
OKAY BUT SOMETIMES THEY’RE FUN. THEY’RE FUN IN… RPG games… RPG elements are fun in RPG games… admittedly not so much in action-adventure games. It’s been one of the GREAT FAILED EXPERIMENTS of the last few decades, turning adventure games into math games.
You know a good example… Shadow of War. Shadow of Mordor was like, perfection. Then Shadow of War added RPG elements. I was so excited. I thought it’d be so great. And it was, for a time. Very addictive, even though the story was complete garbage. But then I started autistically noticing all of the issues in the RPG system. Needing to GO INTO THE MENU to change your skills, when they literally all could have either been mapped to the controller, been made context-sensitive, or just been on a freeeeaking quick-select wheel. BUT THE REAL SIN was the way that ICE was overpowered, getting ITS VERY OWN ability that no other element had. That was so DISGUSTING I’m making myself sick just thinking about it now.
“Erm, Ask, you’re always saying it doesn’t matter if something’s overpowered in a game.”
This is DIFFERENT, because it’s YOUR BUILD, YOU, the player character. And you basically have no choice, the game just THRUSTS ice upon you. And NOT ONLY THAT: ARE YOU READY FOR THE REAL KICKER? THE SKILL IS ACTUALLY A DOWNGRADE. It’s a skill that freezes enemies as you jump over them, right? Well guess what, idiot, some enemies are now IMMUNE to ice. So if you’d kept your NORMAL, non-elemental jump-stun, you’d at least have gotten a BIT of a stun on them. But for enemies that are IMMUNE to ice? ThEY JUST IMMEDIATELY TURN RIGHT AROUND. AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA. And unlike I think ALL of the other elemental skills, once you’ve unlocked it, THAT’S IT, you’re stuck with it.
It was so SICKENING that I literally haven’t played the game in at least 5 years, but I still remember it. The entire game was just a disgusting mess, though. I’m done complainingg thougharegoiheirughaeirgs. I’m hungry. Am I? no. I’m not. I’m hungry for something. That I will not give myself

Riveting stuff. Please bear with it though, because it’s helping me. The SHAME I will feel if I have to tell you I failed is like website-deletion worthy. Well, probably not that bad. But I’d really be upset. That’s really cool. You know, I tried this with a friend who’d usually just trade lewd anime girl pics with me all day every day(of course we did not stop while I was attempting it), and I’m pretty sure whenever I failed I probably just shamelessly sent whatever I lost to to him saying “LOL this got me”. Like practically closer to pride than to shame.
I do have EXTREMELY good taste—way better than his. But it’s still nothing to be proud of.

I think Hilde had made a game called WAR(like how war used to be called Hild’s Game? Really clever right?) and Muse was going to make a game called PEACE, and EA loved War on its own, but together with Peace it would have threatened the company because no-one would ever buy another video game again, because they’d be too perfect together.
That’s what I’m thinking rn. The guys get isekai’d into War probably, Peace needs to be mysterious for a while longer. What’s OBVIOUSLY going to happen is that instead of bringing them back to the IRL, Wizard accidentally opens a portal to War. Or maybe someone else causes it. Kumiko is on a mission 🤔
Either way, Bone vs Limace 3 is going to be the next big thing, and Bone’s Geist, Bonesmashing will finally make his appearance. His appearance, get it? Beecause he’s… a looksmaxxing Geist.
That’s the plan so far.
